چکیده

The principle of Angular Multiplexing to realise independent communication channels in a relatively short step-index plastic optical fibre is described. This concept of Mode Group Diversity Multiplexing is based on the principle that the axial angle of light propagating in a step index multimode fibre is preserved over relative short distances. By using an array of lasers each launching light into the fibre at different axial angles and by detecting the light of different angle areas by an array of photo detectors at the receiver side, independent transmission channels are created in a single step index fibre. Moreover, these individual channels will have a higher bandwidth because each channel uses fewer modes. First experiments with 25 m step index plastic fibre with a diameter of 1 mm already show the feasibility of this principle. With Angular Mode Group Diversity Multiplexing in step index plastic fibre high capacity, transparent, lowcost, easy-to-install in-house multimedia networks can be realised.

Ultra-high-density spatial division multiplexing with a few-mode multicore fibre

Single-mode fibres with low loss and a large transmission bandwidth are a key enabler for long-haul high-speed optical communication and form the backbone of our information-driven society. However, we are on the verge of reaching the fundamental limit of single-mode fibre transmission capacity. Therefore, a new means to increase the transmission capacity of optical fibre is essential to avoid ...

Empirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation

This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system.  In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...

Broadband Multi-service In-house Networks Using Mode Group Diversity Multiplexing

Multiple broadband services are carried independently in a highly multimode polymer optical fibre network by selectively launching and detecting several mode groups, while counteracting mode-mixing by adaptive electrical signal processing. With cheap integrated signal processors, mode group diversity multiplexing can offer the same functionality as wavelength multiplexing at lower costs. © 2002...

Mode division multiplexing using an orbital angular momentum mode sorter and MIMO-DSP over a graded-index few-mode optical fibre

Mode division multiplexing (MDM)- using a multimode optical fiber's N spatial modes as data channels to transmit N independent data streams - has received interest as it can potentially increase optical fiber data transmission capacity N-times with respect to single mode optical fibers. Two challenges of MDM are (1) designing mode (de)multiplexers with high mode selectivity (2) designing mode (...
